FIELD: refractory materials. SUBSTANCE: material is manufactured by mixing of partially foamed polystyrene with industrial silica, 3-40% of which is ground and 60-70% treated by water-proofing agent to appear hydrophobic films on the surface and then by water. Mixture obtained is molded in molds with upper and lower covers perforated to 0.20- 0.35% of their area, after which electric heating is effected for 35-42 min at voltage 110-120 V and current intensity 0.5-3.0 A. Average density of material is 0.7-1.0 g/cu. cm and compression strength 11.1-14.5 MPa. EFFECT: improved characteristics. 1 tbl
