SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing a novel benzoate plasticiser of PVC, consisting predominantly of a mixture of mono- and dibenzoates of 2,4-diethyl-1,3-octane diol and 2,4-diethyloctyl benzoate, as well as impurities of benzoates of monoalcohols C8 and higher, using a secondary product of producing 2-ethylhexanol as a raw material by an oxo-synthesis method – a still residue of fractionation of 2-ethylhexanol. Method of producing the novel benzoate plasticiser of PVC is characterized by the fact that esterification of benzoic acid is carried out with an alcohol fraction obtained by fractional distillation from a still residue of rectification of 2-ethylhexanol at 8–14 mm Hg and a vapor temperature of 130–200 °C and containing 2,4-diethyl-1,3-octandiol from 25 to 50 %, 2,4-diethyl octanol from 10 to 30 % and impurities of other monoalcohols C8 and higher, wherein the esterification process is carried out by boiling a mixture of the alcohol fraction with benzoic acid, taken from the molar ratio of 2,4-diethyl-1,3-octandiol and benzoic acid in range of 1:1.5–1.8, at atmospheric pressure and temperature in cube of 180–280 °C, with simultaneous distillation of reaction water in the form of an azeotrope, first without a catalyst, and after slowing down reaction rate in presence of catalyst, to achieve acid number of reaction mass of 0.1–0.5 mg KOH/g, followed by distillation of unreacted compounds at low pressure.

EFFECT: technical result consists in obtaining a new cheap benzoate plasticiser consisting mainly of a mixture of mono- and dibenzoates 2,4-diethyl-1,3-octane diol and 2,4-diethyloctyl benzoate, as well as impurities benzoates of mono-alcohols C8 and higher, as well as in skilled recycling by-product.
