FIELD: chemical reaction. SUBSTANCE: phenol and acetone are prepared by acid decomposition of cumene oxidation product, e.g. industrial cumene peroxide in back-mixing reactor with vortex motion of reaction products therein. Catalyst system includes 0.3-0.5 wt % sulfuric acid solution in acetone and reaction becomes more selective. In final stage of the process, remaining dimethylphenyl carbinol and dicumyl peroxide are decomposed by stepwise reduction of acidity of medium by adding water to catalyst system in amount of 0.5-6% per reaction mixture of decomposed hydroperoxide. EFFECT: more efficient decomposition method. 6 cl, 1 dwg , 2 tbl
