FIELD: space engineering; rocketry and nuclear engineering. SUBSTANCE: nuclear jet engine has housing with moderator of neutrons embracing the fission chamber, solenoid for stabilization of plasma in fission chamber, plasmatron connected with fissible substance preheater, plasma accelerator and plasma conduit for delivery of fissible substance to fission chamber. One end of solenoid carries magnetic system, type magnetic plug holding the plasma of fissible substance and fission fragments. Fitted on other end of solenoid is magnetic system holding the plasma of fissible substance and admitting fission fragments to engine exit nozzle. Fission chamber may be made in form of half torus with two exit nozzles at the ends. Located in end areas are magnetic plugs which hold plasma of fissible substance and admit fission fragments through nozzles. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency. 3 cl, 2 dwg
