FIELD: nuclear power engineering; space engineering; nuclear power and propelling plants for spacecraft. SUBSTANCE: converter reactor has core, reflector with control elements, and cooling system. Core is built up of thermionic power-generating fuel assemblies and at least one stack of booster fuel elements in pressurized vessel. At least one stack of booster fuel elements is made for at least partial drawing out of core and has individual cooling system with flexible sections. Stack of booster fuel elements is provided with locks that function to prevent its unwanted displacement. EFFECT: enhanced safety including in case of accident causing ingress of hydrogen-containing medium (water or hydrogen fuel). 1 dwg
