FIELD: engineering geology, geophysics to solve problems related to design, construction and evaluation of state of safety of structures and mechanisms, to technological machining of materials. SUBSTANCE: method is based on determination of understanding of Poisson's ratio as relation of relative lateral deformations to relative longitudinal ones. Deformation is considered under application of load with regard to relatively unloaded state. EFFECT: expanded functional capabilities of ultrasonic investigation methods, provision for scale detailed evaluation of absolute deformations in two mutually perpendicular directions along axis of hole and complete tensor of tensions of body, structure or mass with the aid of one hole. 1 tbl
