FIELD: transport engineering. SUBSTANCE: in proposed method cylinder with piston is used also connecting rod device, crankshaft, supply, cooling and lubrication systems. Steam cylinder with piston is installed at angle to form V-shape or in series, close to cylinder. Piston of steam cylinder is coupled by connecting rod with common crankshaft. Waste hot gases from engine cylinder are directed to heat steam cylinder head. Gas conduit and head of steam cylinder are heat insulated. Head of steam cylinder is heated to 374-500 C and water is injected into head once at each revolution of crankshaft when piston is in top dead center. Steam cylinder head is made in form of heat exchanger of material featuring high thermal conductivity and heat capacity. EFFECT: increased efficiency of internal combustion engine and enhanced its ecological characteristics.
