FIELD: CARBON MATERIALS. SUBSTANCE: invention is designed for metallurgy, combustion engineering, chemistry, and electric engineering and can be used in manufacturing flexible products, composites, catalysts, insertions, antifriction and heat-resistant materials. Fuel gas is mixed with air, blown in into reactor 5 through burners 1, and fired. Torches of at least two burners are combined at angle 15-100 deg. to each other. Oxidized graphite is fed into central part of inter-torch zone through pipe 4. Temperature in inter-torch zone exceeds 1000 C. Heat-cleaved graphite is discharged from top part of reactor 5. Loose density of heat-expanded graphite is 2-4 g/cu. m, ash content below 2 wt.%, and pH of water extract 6.7-6.9. EFFECT: enhanced process efficiency. 4 dwg
