FIELD: metallurgy, testing configuration and thickness of layers of iron ore, coke and their mixtures in stacks of blast furnaces. SUBSTANCE: probing scanning system includes horizontal scanning probe with translation mechanism, electric motor drive, transmitter of kind of burden materials, limit switches, transmitter of probe position, transmitter of level of burden with translation mechanism and drive, unit of analog-to-digital converters, computer, control unit of electric motor drive of probe, device measuring rate of vanishing of burden materials in blast furnace. Information outputs of transmitters and limit switches are connected to inputs of unit of analog-to-digital converters and outputs of this unit are connected to inputs of computer. Outputs of computer are connected to inputs of control units of electric motor drive of probe and of drive of transmitter of level of burden. On coming of instruction to conduct measurement cycle from control unit of computer probing scanning system carries out scanning cycle which results in obtainment of graphical and digital information on configuration and thickness of layers of materials in furnace that is generated to video terminal or printer.
