FIELD: metallurgy, production of metal in shaft furnaces from charge materials and solid fuel showing electric resistance. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to check distribution of materials in shaft furnaces. Sensor of type of charge materials has current conducting metal body, electric insulation spacers, metal contact elements, central current-carrying rod and longitudinal electric insulation spacer placed inside body. Rod is fixed in body by means of conical nut-fairing screwed on its front end and system of fixing members put on its rear end and insulated from body with the aid of electric insulation spacer- compensator. Fairing functions as contact element. Increased accuracy of check of distribution of charge materials is achieved in variant of sensor incorporating current- conducting metal tube positioned inside body, connected to contact element and insulated from body and central current-carrying rod with the help of longitudinal electric insulation spacers.
