FIELD: aeronautical engineering; manufacture of flying vehicles. SUBSTANCE: mounted on the outside of coaxial cylindrical electrodes of plasma engine are starting chambers for forming plasma and automatically feeding it between electrodes. All walls of chamber are coated with quartz glass. Reservoirs filled with mercury are located inside chambers. Mercury-vapor lamps are used for ionization of working gas. Mounted underneath plasma accelerator is thrust chamber with flywheel secured on splines of shaft mounted in bearings. Plasma accelerators provided with air intake valves may be located on each starting chamber. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency; reduced consumption of gas. 5 cl, 3 dwg
