FIELD: measurement technology, accurate measurement of large and small distances to objects. SUBSTANCE: pulse signal is sent from reading point towards object which is used to measure distance. Return signal is so formed over leading edge of signal received at object that propagation velocity of return signal is less or equal to propagation velocity of pulse signal. Return signal is received at reading point and at reception point spaced away from reading point by base distance in direction of object. Distance to object is calculated by base distance, first and second summary times of propagation of pulse signal and return signal and time of passage of base distance by pulse signal.
