FIELD: study of materials. SUBSTANCE: method makes it feasible to expose changes of intensity of electric field caused by mechanical stresses in material with provision for low level of noise. This is achieved by usage of new design of sensor composed of at least two different elements manufactured from current conducting material. One element covers considerable area and is installed in immediate proximity to object meant for measurements. Second element having smaller dimensions is installed in space of body meant for measurements and is electrically insulated from it. First element having bigger area id used as reference electrode which means that all changes of potential on smaller electrode of sensor are subjected to amplification and are registered in comparison with potential on first electrode. Additional increase of sensitivity of sensor is achieved by placement of amplification electronic circuit in space of body meant for measurements. Described method and measurement device are especially good to record changes of geoelectric field, that is why they can be used to predict or evaluate volcanic activities or earthquakes.
