FIELD: computer engineering. SUBSTANCE: method for locating position on disk surface involves read-out of coded servo address. The latter is coded to reduce its size. Mentioned coding introduces ambiguity concerning absolute position on disk surface. Mentioned ambiguity of coded servo address is resolved. Disk storage has disk mounted for rotation. Surface meant for data storage is divided into set of locations for memorizing data each having coded servo address. There are conversion head mounted near mentioned disk surface and used for reading out mentioned coded servo address as well as actuating mechanism. EFFECT: reduced disk storage area required to store servo address. 20 cl, 6 dwg
