FIELD: waste water treatment. SUBSTANCE: excess activated sludge from biological treatment of waste water, prior to be mechanically thickened, is aerobically treated to attain maximum value of ratio of optical density at 254 nm to chemical oxygen minimum determined for alkaline extract of excess activated sludge, after which sludge is compacted until residual oxygen concentration in compacted sludge 0.1-0.2 mg/l, and reagents are then added. EFFECT: improved water-yield property of sludge and reduced consumption of reagents. 2 dwg
