FIELD: carpet production. SUBSTANCE: method includes washing carpets with aqueous solution of oxidant, then with water, and cutting nap. Potassium permanganate is used as oxidant in amount 0.1-3.0 mole per 1 sq.m of carpet at its concentration in aqueous solution 0.1 to 2.0 g/l. Permanganate washing is carried out at pH 1-8 with simultaneous or subsequent treatment with hydrochloric, and/or sulfuric, and/or oxalic, and/or citric acid in amounts from 0.2 to 10.0 mole/sq.m. EFFECT: improved decorative properties of carpets because increased intensity of nap brightness, and prevented overpainting upon water treatment. 4 cl, 1 tbl
