FIELD: carpet industry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to finishing of wool carpets (primarily hand-made ones) and can be used in carpet manufacture and also in public utility area. Aim of invention is to prolong lifetime of carpets by way of decreasing their creasing property and pile wearability, to improve decorative properties by increasing luster intensity, and to eliminate shrinking deformation. To that aim, treatment of wool carpets including treatment with sodium hypochlorite aqueous solution, washing with water, drying, and cutting pile is distinguished by that, before or after sodium hypochlorite treatment and before water washing, carpet is additionally treated, successively or simultaneously, by aqueous solutions of alkali metal bichromate and sodium thiosulfate, and/or oxalic acid, and/or sodium hydrosulfite, and/or sodium hypochlorite in concentration 0.02 to 4.00 g/l taken in amounts 0.1 to 20.0 g (on conversion to solids) per 1 sq.m of carpet, after which water-washed carpet is squeezed and dried to residual moisture 9-15%, and pile is greased by polymethylsiloxane oil. In addition, back side of dried carpet, if necessary, is additionally treated by 0.1-1.0% butadiene- styrene rubber dispersion followed by redrying in stretched state before greasing by polymethylsiloxane oil.
