FIELD: ecology; control of pollution of environment with oil, oil products, cyclic and aromatic hydrocarbons such as toluene, benzene, etc. SUBSTANCE: method includes preparation of sorbing material from natural graphite treated with chromatic acid with graphite-to-acid weight ratio within 1: 0.2 to 1:0.5 by resistive heating; dispersing of sorbing material over surface polluted with splined oil or oil product; and gathering the sorbing material after sorption of oil and oil products. In gathering of spilled oil from water surface, sorbing material may be prepared on ship gathering oil. After gathering of sorbing material oil may be removed. In this case, sorbing material may be used repeatedly or utilized as fuel. Gathered oil or oil products may be used for direct purpose. One gram of prepared sorbing material absorbs at least 50 g of hydrocarbon compounds that provides for efficient treatment of large polluted surfaces with insignificant consumption of sorbing material. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 11 cl, 2 dwg
