FIELD: microbiology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hygiene and sanitation of fresh-water reservoirs and is meant to be used in performing sanitary-microbiological analysis of water in fresh-water reservoir monitoring system. Method includes microbiological isolation of microalgae, determining lysozyme and antilysozyme activities in microalgae and saprobiont population index for each species manifesting indicated features. Saprobiont population index of sample water is then calculated, which enables evaluating saprobiont population index for reservoir water. This index is calculated as average value of indexes of microalgae manifesting lysozyme and antilysozyme activities. EFFECT: simplified examination and reduced examination time. 1 dwg, 1 tbl
