FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, electrolytic production of aluminum, repair f lining of aluminum electrolyzers. SUBSTANCE: place and character of damage to hearth are determined in operating electrolyzer, electrolyzer is disconnected from electric network, melt is removed out of cathode, solidified electrolyte and metal are removed out of cathode, then hearth block/blocks and metal in place of damage to lining and metal penetrations are removed. Later new hearth block/blocks are installed to replace removed one/ones and interblock seams are fettled with hearth mass. Part of hearth block and current tapping rod in place of metal penetration to hearth may be removed and part of hearth block and current tapping rod may be installed instead of them or removed part of current tapping rod is not reclaimed. EFFECT: prolonged service life of electrolyzer, improved rating of produced aluminum, enhanced productivity and reduced electric energy consumption. 2 cl, 1 dwg, 2 tbl
