FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy, particularly, electrolytic production of aluminum; applicable in reconditioning of lining of aluminum electrolyzer cathode assemblies. SUBSTANCE: prior to starting of reconditioning of side lining of aluminum electrolyzer, carbon foam is taken off from electrolyte surface, and alumina sediment is removed from electrolyzer bottom, 0.3-0.9 of "side member-anode" space is filled with circulating electrolyte, and lining is reconditioned without reduction of electrolyte level and working voltage. Height of skull on reconditioning section is formed and maintained for period of reconditioning within 1.1-1.5 height of cathode shaft. Lining may be reconditioned without reduction of cathode metal level. Content of CaF2 may be increased to 6-12% in content of circulating electrolyte filled into "side member-anode" space.
