FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: in order to dehydrogenate light hydrocarbons, especially C2-C5 hydrocarbons and to prepare corresponding light olefins, use is made of catalyst system comprising platinum, tin and aluminium oxide carrier with potassium and lathanide additives. Process is carried out in fluidized bed reactor, heat for reaction is used to maintain heat in said catalyst system, reaction is carried out at temperature of 500-700 C and at pressure of 1-2 kg/sq.cm. Regeneration of catalyst is carried out by reducing content of coke deposited on catalyst system surface in air and/or oxygen current, if desired, when catalyst system temperature rises to suitable level, and after regeneration catalyst system is reduced with reducing agent. The claimed method makes it possible to prepare olefin from widely accessible raw material such as natural gas with high selectivity. EFFECT: more efficient dehydrogenation method. 5 cl, 9 ex, 2 tbl
