FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: method is carried out by conversion of pentane which comprises in methane-containing gaseous mixture into higher hydrocarbons. The process takes place at 500-1000 C and at pressure 0.01-10 atm in the presence of catalyst, air and/or oxygen, ratio $$$ is 1-100, contact time, 0.01-10 s. Then dehydrogenation of higher hydrocarbon takes place at 400-950 with the help of catalyst at pressure 0.01-10 atm, contact time, 0.01-50 s; thus mixture which comprises corresponding olefins are prepared. $$$, CO and $$$ are removed of said mixture; unconverted methane is removed of mixture of olefins and is recycled. Ethylene is separated of olefin mixture and ethane is separated of olefin mixture. EFFECT: improved efficiency. 14 cl, 2 dwg, 1 tbl
