FIELD: laser engineering; solid-state pulse lasers using electrooptic Q-factor modulation. SUBSTANCE: laser has output mirror, active element, splitting polarizer, electrooptic element, 90-deg. rotator, second electrooptic element, and turning mirrors all arranged in tandem along optical axis of cavity; they close optical axis split by polarizer; in addition, one more 90-deg. rotator is installed between electrooptic elements and splitting polarizer. Inverted population stored in active medium is increased due to reducing initial Q- factor of laser cavity and abandoning use of DC voltage for cutting off the cavity.
