FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: during gas-phase hydrodechlorination of carbon tetrachloride "platinum on aluminium oxide catalyst is treated with reaction mixture with addition of 0.5-1.5 vol % steam for 2 to 5 hours at 60 to 120 C. After said treatment by varying concentration of steam (up to 1 vol %) added to reaction mixture, process is directed to preparing preferably either chloroform, or chloroform and chlorhydrocarbons containing 2 carbon atoms.
