FIELD: processing of dead lead-acid storage batteries. SUBSTANCE: method includes removal of electrolyte from storage batteries and their subjection to metallurgical processing which covers melting to obtain crude lead-antimony alloy which is refined to produce lead-antimony alloys of the required compositions containing copper of tin and arsenic as alloying components. Middlings of refining of crude alloy from copper, arsenic and tin are returned to metallurgical processing using them as alloying additives. Ratio of lead and alloying components in charge supplied for smelting is determined by the composition of produced alloys. In case of smelting with continuous production of crude lead-antimony alloy and matter. The process is carried out at matte temperature no in excess of 1050 C with ratio of the furnace smelting rate by lead-antimony alloy related to area of furnace hearth, t/sq. m. h) to the height of bath of lead-antimony melt in furnace, m, equals 0.7-1.7, and maximum relationship of copper quantity to lead quantity in heat charge with production of copper-containing lead-antimony alloys does not exceed the maximum permissible value of this relationship by more than three times.
