Method involves an alkylation of N-formylguanine with 2-oxa-1,4-diacylhydroxybutane and hydrolysis of an intermediate compound in the presence of acid catalyst. Aciclovir - 9-(2-hydroxy)-ethoxymethylguanine is the known antiviral agent. Method provides synthesis of aciclovir without its nonfavorable by-side 7-isomer of the end product practically.
