FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: proposed internal combustion engine operating at high pressure uses working medium consisting of mixture of compressed air components not used at combustion, fuel combustion products and steam. Invention contains description of operation of this engine and method of continuous delivery of working medium in steam - air engines. According to invention working medium is delivered at constant pressure and temperature. Air for combustion is delivered adiabatically by one or several compression stages. Fuel is injected at required pressure. At least 40% of compressed air is combusted. Inert liquid at high pressure is injected to form steam and, consequently, inert steam-diluter of high specific heat capacity required for internal cooling of turbine with internal combustion or other system. EFFECT: prevention of contamination, provision of high efficiency and power output of engine, reduced specific fuel consumption. 62 cl, 10 dwg
