FIELD: heat treatment of metals, in particular, technology of heat treatment of pipes from stainless steel, mainly, chromium-nickel steels and alloys; may be used in metallurgy and nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: method includes feed of pipe to transport channel with protective medium formed by sealing inlet unit, quartz tube located in common cone of reflectors of heating unit, thermocouple battery, cooler and sealing outlet unit. Pipes are transported and rotated in channel with the help of transport modules. Pipe exercising the combined forward-rotary motion is heated by flux of focused radiant energy up to the required temperature and cooled. In so doing, pipe in the course of heat treatment is moved forward and rotated about its axis at speeds of forward motion and rotary motion specified in the invention description. Pipe passes successively the zones of heating and cooling with heating rate amounting up to at least 30 C/s and cooling rate from temperature of heat treatment at which formation of metal microstructure is completed being at least 25 C/s. Protection gas is introduced in such a manner that any phase of pipe passing through transport channel, the conditions specified in the invention description is observed.
