FIELD: processes for working fragile materials, namely beryllium. SUBSTANCE: in order to determine optimal cutting speed at working beryllium, worked material is subjected to trial comprising testing for strength wear of cutting tool along its back surface before working. According to test results and wear data optimal cutting speed is determined with use of formula , where V-optimal cutting speed; hr-cutting tool wear along its back surface; C,m-constant factors depending upon type of worked material and exponent, both determined according to results of tests for cracking. EFFECT: enhanced quality of working beryllium, increased constructional strength of beryllium articles. 1 dwg, 1 tbl
