FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: aluminum-based alloy containing 2.0 to 6.5 weight parts of copper and 0.2 to 2.7 weight parts of lithium is prepared by heating solid solution, hardening it in water, and at least once deforming and artificially aging it to an extent sufficient to provide strength and fracture toughness at cryogenic temperature equal to or exceeding the same characteristics at room temperature. In addition, invention is distinguished by composition of alloy being deformed and by container to store cryogenic material.
