FIELD: agriculture, in particular, crop selection. SUBSTANCE: method involves measuring quantitative features in plant populations and analyzing anatomical-morphological and physiological size features of different sorts of plants; selecting two associated features and analyzing modal frequency of one feature relative to other feature within combination under investigation; grouping them into interval variation row and considering the possibility of obtaining new sort possessing predetermined features by polymodal frequency variation curves of occurrence of paired values under question. EFFECT: increased efficiency in obtaining new sorts of crops. 3 tbl
