FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: method includes stage A, wherein crude mixture 1 containing at least chloropentafluoroethane and pentafluoroethane is involved into gas-phase catalytic reaction with hydrogen (4) to reduce pentafluoroethane; stage B, wherein reaction mixture obtained is separated into first mixture 3 containing basically hydrogen and second mixture 2 containing basically pentafluoroethane; stage C, wherein hydrogen chloride is removed from the first mixture (3) to 0.5 value of its molar ratio to pentafluoroethane in crude mixture (1) or stage D, wherein the first mixture (3) is added to crude mixture after above-described removal of hydrogen chloride from the first mixture.
