FIELD: engine manufacture. SUBSTANCE: method involves conversion of source compression wave into reflected rarefaction and compression waves in power section of exhaust system followed by equalizing variable flowrate of exhaust gases by their discharge and throttling in muffled section of exhaust system; discharge of exhaust gases from power section is fully or partially combined with conversion of source compression wave into reflected rarefaction wave; conversion of source wave into reflected compression wave is not combined with discharge of exhaust gases from power section; during period between two engine cycles exhaust gases are conveyed in sampled portions to common space, pressure is equalized in this space, and then gases are uniformly discharged into the atmosphere. Device implementing this method is given in description of invention. EFFECT: improved efficiency of noise suppression; improved power rating and economic efficiency of engine, reduced size and weight of its exhaust system. 3 cl, 4 dwg
