FIELD: power-plant engineering. SUBSTANCE: double-cylinder engine is provided with single piston-and-rod assembly placed in opposite dual-action cylinders filled with gaseous working medium for its sequential heating and cooling. Novelty is that hot and cold cavities are distributed between opposite pistons and combustion cycle is organized as two isochoric and two isothermal processes. With piston-and-rod assembly moving upward, exhaust-displacement stroke in cooling working medium occurs concurrently with supercharging-displacement stroke in heating working medium without mechanical work; working medium compression stroke takes place concurrently with combustion stroke. Engine is provided with heat exchangers with countercurrent flow of working medium. EFFECT: improved engine efficiency. 6 dwg
