FIELD: mechanical engineering; tool making; engraving tools. SUBSTANCE: metal blank of tool steel ШX15 is preliminarily heated to 900 C, is upset forged to obtained outer cold-hardened layer, is cut to length by electric erosion method along axis of rolled piece and then is hardened in saltpeter bath at 830-840 C, tempered at 150-160 C for one hour and subjected to finishing. EFFECT: increased hardness of material to 62-64 HRC without increase in brittleness, provision of wear resistant tools with thin profile (from 0.5 mm). 2 dwg
