METHOD OF MAKING PAPIER-MACHE ARTICLES Russian patent published in 1999 - IPC

FIELD: mechanical engineering; production of papier-mache articles. SUBSTANCE: proposed method of production includes winding of cardboard tapes cut and covered with glue onto block, drying and cutting of reel removed from block, sand-papering and assembling of article, second sand-papering, covering with lacquer. Cardboard tapes are covered and impregnated with natural glue and when being wound onto block, they are covered with glue on base of polyvinyl acetate or its derivatives with subsequent tying up by cord made of elastic material and holding for 49-60 h at temperature of 30-40 C. Assembled article, after sand-papering of surface to provided ideal smoothness, is liberally impregnated with lacquer in several layers and is dried at temperature of 60-70 C for 50-60 min for the first layer and 15-20 min for each following layer. EFFECT: improved strength of painted layer and enhanced quality of articles, reduced time for manufacture of articles and cost of process.
