FIELD: petrochemical processes and catalysts. SUBSTANCE: catalytic composition includes at least one nickel compound in the form of mixture or complex with at least one tertiary phosphine, composition being at least partially dissolved in an ionic non-aqueous medium prepared by bringing into contact at least one aluminum halide, at least one quaternary ammonium salt, at least one hydrocarbon, and organoaluminum compound. Method is distinguished by that above-mentioned hydrocarbon is aromatic hydrocarbon and organoaluminum compound is expressed by formula AlRxX3-x wherein R is linear or ramified C2-C8-alkyl, X chlorine or bromine, and x=1,2 or 3.
