FIELD: petrochemical processes and catalysts. SUBSTANCE: catalyst for vapor-phase oxidation of ethylene into ethylene oxide is prepared by impregnating porous carrier having specific surface 0.2-2.0 sq.m/g with hydrocarbon solution of organic acid silver salt in amount corresponding to 3-25 wt % silver in carrier at temperature 150-200 C for less than 1 hr, activating impregnated carrier at 200-300 C, impregnating activated carrier at 300- 400 C for less than 1 hr, and heating at 400-500 C for less than 1 hr under atmosphere containing one inert gas. According to invention, silver-impregnated carrier is later impregnated with water-free alcohol solution of alkali metal. EFFECT: increased catalyst stability. 34 cl, 10 tbl, 11 ex
