FIELD: petrochemical processes and catalysts. SUBSTANCE: new catalyst for (co)polymerization of ethylene and its mixtures with C₃-C₁₄-alpha-olefins consists of reaction product of (i) solid catalytic component consisting of magnesium halide in active form and titanium compound containing at least one Ti-halide bond; (ii) alkylaluminum compound; and (ii) electronodonor compound. Catalyst is distinguished by that electronodonor compound is selected from 1,3-diethers of formula 1 (in description) wherein R and R' are straight-chain or ramified C₁-C₈-alkyls or phenyl radical; R"-R^V hydrogen atoms; R^VI and R^VII are C₁-C₈-alkyls, compound (iii) being under normal conditions reactive to MgCl₂ and not to AlEt₃.
