FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: in proposed method cheap metals are used as oxidation-reduction catalysts of oxide compounds. Solutions of oxide compounds are added into fuel. Delivery of solution into fuel tank is provided by signal of electronic control unit passed to meter. Solution is mixed with fuel when fuel is filled into tank or when driving the vehicle. Description of device for implementing this method is provided. EFFECT: increased degree of neutralization of engine exhaust gases, decreased cost and weight of exhaust gas neutralization system. 3 cl, 1 dwg
