FIELD: metal ion recovery. SUBSTANCE: invention is applicable when isolating cesium ions from their solutions with other alkali metal cations via complexing of cesium cation with compounds consisting of polymer resins containing poly(hydroxyarylene) ligand followed by selectively detaching cesium from part of ligands to which cesium ions have been attached. For that, initial ion solution is brought into contact with polymer resin containing 5 to 100 mol % of above- indicated ligand, solution is removed, and resin is brought into contact with smaller volume of receiving solution into which cesium ions are transferred in concentrated state. Resin involved is product of reaction of poly(hydroxyarylene) ligand with formaldehyde and any other alkoxy- or hydroxy-derivative of aromatic compound or methylated hydroxyaromatic compound with 5 to 100 mol % concentration of poly(hydroxyarylene) ligand.
