FIELD: method of formation of coatings from oxide film of conversion cobalt on metal base and impairing in this way the properties of resistance to corrosion and paint adhesion. SUBSTANCE: method includes the following stages: (a) preparation of solution for cobalt conversion including aqueous solution containing soluble hexavalent complex of cobalt-III with its concentration amounting approximately up to 0.01 mole per liter of solution to its limit solubility; (b) contact of base with solution for time sufficient for formation of coating by cobalt conversion. Base may be used in form of aluminum, or aluminum alloy and also electroplated coating from Cd, Zn, Zn-Ni and steel. Hexavalent complex of cobalt-III is presented in the form of Mem[CO(R)6]n, where Me is Na, Li, K, Ca, Zn, Mg or Mn; m equals 2 or 3; and n equals 1 or 2; R is carboxylate with 1-5 atoms.
