FIELD: genetics and selection, in particular, obtaining of mutants as basic material in basic selection. SUBSTANCE: method involves exposing barley seeds to red light for 60 min, with wave length of red light being 633 plus and minus 10 nanometers. Red light is obtained from electric filament lamp and passed through interference light filter. Radiation power density is 0.1 mW/sq cm. Method allows wider range of selection-valuable morphological and physiological mutations of second generation barley plants to be obtained upon exposing to electromagnetic radiation. EFFECT: increased yield and wider range of morphological and physiological mutations. 7 tbl
