FIELD: powder metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: powder composition is expressed by formula MeX wherein Me is at least one metal selected from group including aluminum, gallium, indium, germanium, tin, lead, arsenic, antimony, bismuth, selenium, tellurium, copper, silver, gold, zinc, cadmium, mercury, platinum, palladium, iridium, rhodium, ruthenium, osmium, rhenium, yttrium, lanthanum, cerium, thorium, praseodymium, neodymium, samarium, europium, and gadolinium and X is at least one element selected from group including carbon, nitrogen, boron, silicon, tellurium, phosphorus, oxygen, and sulfur, provided that aluminum nitride and aluminum oxide must be excluded from the list of possible compounds. Powder is characterized by particle size from 1.0 to 1000 nm, contains less than 1% of particles with size deviating more than by 40% from average particle size and no particles deviating from that size by more than 60%. Preparation: corresponding metal compounds interact in gas phase with reagents that are separately fed into reactor, the both having been preheated to temperature not below than reaction temperature. Reaction product directly and homogeneously condenses from gas phase under conditions excluding its contact with walls of reactor and is further separated from reaction mixture. Oxygen level in product is less than 100 and preferably less than 50 ppm. EFFECT: optimized preparation parameters. 20 cl, 1 dwg
