FIELD: organic chemistry, medicine, endocrinology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a new compound - magnesium 5-hydroxynicotinate of the formula (I) , i. e. C12H16N2O10-Mg exhibiting a decomposition point above 300 C. In experiment on diabetic animals the compound (I) showed the complex antidiabetic effect resulting to the normalization of blood glucose and lipid level and processes of lipid peroxidation. The value LD50 for the compound (I) is 1600 mg/kg. The compound (I) is obtained by interaction of 5-hydroxynicotinic acid with magnesium oxide.
