FIELD: titanium metallurgy; applicable in reprocessing of titanium-containing raw material by chlorine method. SUBSTANCE: method includes mixing of initial slag with reducer and chlorination in melt of alkali metal chlorides with obtaining of steam-gas composition containing titanium tetrachloride; salt purification of steam-gas composition in chloride melt; returning of melt after salt purification to chlorinator; condensation of chloride impurities in spraying scrubber with circulation of formed pulp in chlorination circuit in amount of 2.0-3.0 t/t of titanium tetrachloride, and in circuit of spraying scrubber in amount of 80-100 t/t of titanium tetrachloride; condensation of titanium tetrachloride in spraying condensers with successive use of titanium tetrachloride in form of spraying liquid with temperature of 90-105, 25-40 and 0-(-15)C. Slag in melt is chlorinated at temperature of not in excess of 750 C with titanium-chloride concentration of 1-4 wt.%, concentration of reducer 3-5 wt.$, and at chlorine-slag ratio of (1.48-1.62):1, with linear rate of supply of chlorinating agent of 20-30 m/s. Chlorination and slag purification are carried out at mole ratio of alkali metal chloride to sum of impurities of chlorides of iron and aluminum in excess of 1 in slag and steam-gas composition, respectively.
