FIELD: treatment of article surfaces; applicable in mechanical engineering and other industries. SUBSTANCE: method includes deposition of coatings on articles made of aluminum by oxidation in solutions of electrolytes with subsequent heating of articles to temperature of not below 500 C. Oxidation lasting 45-100 min at current density of 25-35 A/sq.dm is carried out in combined electrolyte based on boric acid and potassium hydroxide with content of the latter amounting to 3-5 g/l and boric acid of 20-40 g/l, time of holding article during heating amounts to 100% of oxidation time. EFFECT: higher surface hardness, wear resistance and Young's modulus of articles made of aluminum and its alloys. 1 tbl
