FIELD: railway transport; car brakes. SUBSTANCE: retarder consists of brake beams with blocks installed along rail parallel to its side plane. Base of retarder is made in form of support plates, upper and lower ones, with travelling sliders and rollers installed on ribs of brake beams which are connected into parallelogram mechanism by means of levers and tie-rod. Parallelogram mechanism is set into action by single-action pneumatic cylinder hinge-mounted on brake beam. Rod of pneumatic cylinder hinge-mounted on lever of parallelogram mechanism provides movement of brake beams from one extreme position to the other. Beam travel is limited by spring and screw-stops.
