FIELD: gas treatment. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to producing sulfur from process gases containing oxygen and sulfur dioxide and can be used in processing emission gases in nonferrous metallurgy enterprises, power- and-process complexes, and other enterprises. Natural gas is first burned in oxygen-air atmosphere with 20-39 vol % of oxygen to form thermal zone through which process gas which is then combined with natural gas in amount larger than half amount of oxygen in process gas but smaller than summary stoichiometric content of oxygen in process gas including oxygen in sulfur dioxide. Then, natural gas in amounts required for reduction reaction is fed into oxygen-free thermal zone. Natural gas utilized for creation of thermal zone and for reduction reaction is fed by very-high-speed jets at supercritical pressure. EFFECT: increased process reliability and eliminated explosion hazard with more efficient utilization of reaction space. 2 cl, 1 dwg
